Vertebrate Zoology and Comparative Anatomy

A list of links to help you with your vertebrate zoology and comparative anatomy studies.

http://tinyurl.com/4o8q8m This is a great introduction to Vertebrates and includes information on the fossil record, morphology, and more. A great refresher for anyone about to take a vertebrate zoology course.

http://tinyurl.com/4x5nryu This is a site with some concise info on vertebrates. Though the information isn't complete, it is still a useful resource for high school biology students or college-level vertebrate labs.

http://tinyurl.com/3m8fhpx This is a lecture outline with links to site with more information. It also has the option to download Adobe versions that you can then print out.

http://tinyurl.com/pbtz8d A site with good quality, numbered photographs of a dogfish shark dissection.

http://tinyurl.com/3o245yj An amazing flashcard site! Not only do you have "study" (both the term and the definition on one card) and "test" (gives you a word and you have to provide the definition, and vice versa) options, but you can also play games with the flashcards.

http://tinyurl.com/67xohnd This site has lecture notes from a biology course at Washington University. They are full-color powerpoint slides in PDF format and are quite extensive. Follow the link to the professor's homepage and you'll find notes for other biology courses.

http://tinyurl.com/3e6ffdo The SparkNotes page for comparative anatomy, but there are other biology areas to explore. This is great to look over right before a test to jump start your memory.

http://tinyurl.com/yd37qlw For those of you who are in Comparative Anatomy courses might find this quite useful. It has the major bones of many different primates (humans included), as well as a taxonomic tree. It makes viewing and comparing differences in bones rather easy!

http://tinyurl.com/3k9o6az This is a link to an iPhone/iPod Touch comparative anatomy flashcard app. You do have to pay around three dollars for it, but it could prove worthwhile. Definitely check out the reviews.

http://tinyurl.com/62uttvr This is a powerpoint presentation over the pigeon. It gives some basic info as well as photographs of a pigeon dissection. It's great for use in the laboratory. NOTE: Clicking the link might automatically download the powerpoint.

http://tinyurl.com/3u44rtp This site has many, good-quality photographs of a pigeon dissection. They are numbered so it makes quizzing yourself easy.

http://tinyurl.com/3s9fg9a The photographs of the pigeon dissection on this site are of better quality, but since they are labeled it's not the best site for quizzing yourself.

http://tinyurl.com/43jvg89 This is a great site for quizzing yourself on the structures of the pigeon. It's an overview of the major structures so it's not as detailed as the above sites.

http://tinyurl.com/3n4ah3u This is a word document covering a mudpuppy dissection. It has background info as well as two, full-color and detailed photographs (which are labeled). NOTE: Clicking the link might automatically download the document.

http://tinyurl.com/3wwh58p A flicker with extremely high quality photos of a mudpuppy dissection. Some photos have structures tagged and some do not.

http://tinyurl.com/3c8r4hj A photo of a mudpuppy dissection that gives an overview of the major mudpuppy structures. A great review and quizzing site.

http://tinyurl.com/3obzj69 This is the TheBiologyHub's youtube playlist over vertebrates and comparative anatomy. It has some videos covering shark, mudpuppy, and pigeon dissections.
